WHAT ARE YOU READING?

I know I should be working in the studio but I just can't stay away from the internet!
I enjoy finding new artists and their blogs.
Cut, Paste, Repeat
This week I stumbled on to Rachel Pfeffer of Rachel Pfeffer Designs.  She also has an Etsy store Luckyduct.  What pulled me in you ask?

1.  Etsy Featured Seller
2.  Jewelry All Day Video
3.  Rings

The video is what really did it for me!  She has a great sense of humor.  Which is obvious in her Jewelry All Day video.   Rachel lives in Washington, DC and blogs about her journey in jewelry, fashion, and other life experiences, and she's not afraid to share it.  SO...go find out what she's all about.

I love her sense of design. I especially like her rings.  How do people work with such small stones?

Look out world...Kalaya has been inspired!  Sizing seems to be a problem for me.  You think I would be good at it since I had to make at least 11 rings of all sorts of sizes and shapes in metalsmith class.  I guess 11+ is not enough.  The only way I will get better at making rings is TO MAKE MORE RINGS.

So making rings will be on my list of things to do.  It looks like it's going to be a weekend full of projects.

It's Thursday!  Yay!  We are officially over the hump.  Talk to you soon.

Namaste

The Risk to Bloom

It all started with an acorn button and grew from there. In an earlier post I mentioned this button swap blog hop, that I am participating in, and how I was immediately drawn to the acorn button.  Every day I would hold it in my hand, feel its essence, exam it, and then put it down.  This lasted for about 2 weeks. Then I remembered I had etched an oak tree on to brass when making buttons for my partner Kylie of Lotus Out Loud .  And... so begins the journey of creating something with this wonderful acorn button, which only started yesterday. Haha!  Etched brass was copper riveted to a piece of oak.  Merci beaucoup Papi for finding some oak!   I am using what Jesse taught me in his workshop .  It was the first time trying his technique.  It worked beautifully! The riveted brass was then captured with a piece of pierced copper. Voila! And then the day came  when the risk to remain tight in...

Pepe Jump Ring Maker...New Is Not Always Better...

For the follow up (2014) on jump ring makers go here . Introducing Pepe's new AND improved Jump Ring maker... When I received my new jump ring maker I knew the new model was more compact but did not expect it to be so unstable.  It was precarious but I accepted it.  After all I will have jump rings galore with a single swipe!  The outcome outweighed the little difference and yes...I am lazy!  hahaha!!! To the bench I go to test things out. Test No. 1 The first set of jump rings turned out great!  I was satisfied.   ☺ I then received an email saying that the top plate (cover) that came with the system was too thick and needed to be replaced.  Okay.   I receive the new plate but did not test it out until some friends were over and wanted a demo.  Well...it was difficult to place the handpiece collar over the plate.  It did not fit over the coil holding device very well.  I had to finagle it to go in ...

Wabi-Sabiness

Hola everyone! New Orleans is hunkering down because we are about to get "Wintry Mix".  Whatever that means and in south Louisiana we just do not know how to drive on ice and so great havoc ensues.  The city has decided to shut down.  I know...it's some crazy stuff down here! Anyways... my mother saw some stacking rings I made a couple of weeks ago and requested a set.  So I sat in my studio and thought about texture and a word I wanted to inscribe.  I meditated, sitting there in my chair, and spinning myself in circles until I got dizzy and had to stop.  Oh wait...I digress. Back to the subject. My mind has been preoccupied with wabi-sabi lately and I thought that this is just befitting.  My mom is totally sabi!!! I inscribed the word sabi inside of the silver ring and thus began my journey. Sabi means (in the most simplistic definition)  the beauty or serenity that comes with age, when the life of the object and its impe...
